Gun rights groups unleash on Biden for 9mm handgun ban remark

As if Joe Biden didn’t have enough trouble with the fall of Afghanistan, two gun rights organizations have unleashed 60-second messages ripping him for his remarks at a CNN Townhall during which he let slip he is “continuing to push to eliminate” the sale of 9mm pistols.

The Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms are both airing their television messages on several cable networks this week, and the effort will likely continue. Best part about it, according to veteran gun rights warrior Alan Gottlieb is that both spots include video clips of Biden actually stating his intentions.

During the Townhall program, Biden responded to a question about guns and crime, observing, “The idea you need a weapon that can have the ability to fire 20, 30, 40, 50, 120 shots from that weapon, whether it’s a, whether it’s a 9mm pistol or whether it’s a rifle, is ridiculous. I’m continuing to push to eliminate the sale of those things…”

Social media went into overdrive as activists across the time zones began weighing in almost immediately. Gottlieb, who founded SAF and serves as its executive vice president, stated in a news release, “Joe Biden is no longer hiding his real intentions.”

He said the president was, “for once, honest enough to reveal his true agenda.” Gottlieb promised SAF will continue educating and alerting the public and, if necessary, take legal action should Biden make that drastic a gun control move.

“It’s taken Joe Biden six short months to foul up the economy, reverse this country’s energy independence causing fuel prices to soar, declare war on free speech and now he has acknowledged in a Freudian slip he really does want to ban handguns,” he noted, on behalf of CCRKBA, where he serves as chairman.

But the White House cannot walk any of this back, Gottlieb contended.

“That horse has left the barn,” Gottlieb said, “and no amount of clarification or obfuscation is going to clean up his mess. Biden’s only mistake was that he accidentally told the truth about his intentions, and CNN broadcast it live. By his own words, he has confirmed everything we have warned about for months.”

He maintains that Biden is fully aware that handguns are particularly protected by the Second Amendment, as detailed in District of Columbia v. Heller, the 2008 ruling authored by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

“This was not just some prepared remark on a teleprompter,” Gottlieb said in a prepared statement. “This was Joe Biden admitting he wants to ban millions of handguns, which he knows are protected by the Second Amendment. This was the president telling his constituents he would very much like to disarm them of their only means of personal protection. We’ve been warning about Biden’s intentions for a long time, and now he has confirmed everything we said. We’re hoping every American gun owner joins this fight to beat Biden’s disarmament plan.”
