Contrary to the messaging of the White House and his Democratic colleagues, California Gov. Gavin Newsom acknowledged in an interview that his “sanctuary” state is being overwhelmed by illegal aliens.
Newsom recently approved funding for new social programs for the migrants, but he told ABC News that “what we’ve got right now is not working, and it’s about to break in a post-42 world unless we take some responsibility and ownership.”
His reference was to the lifting of the Trump administration policy Title 42, which allows for the immediate expulsion of migrants who come from a country with a communicable disease outbreak.
“And I’m saying that as a Democrat, I’m not saying that to point fingers, I’m saying that as a father, I’m saying that as someone that feels responsible for being part of the solution and I’m trying to do my best here,” Newsom said.

Meanwhile, Border Patrol agents confronted Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during a recent visit to El Paso, Texas, an agent in the room told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
A colleague, the agent said, accused Mayorkas of making empty promises about addressing the illegal immigration surge, falsely insisting that the border is “secure” and lambasting the force.
Newsom told ABC the federal government is sending migrants to California because of the good treatment his state gives them.
“The more we do, the burden is placed disproportionate on us,” he said.
He said there are nine migrant facilities on the California border that have breached their capacity.
“We can’t continue to fund all of these sites because of the budgetary pressures now being placed on this state and the offsetting issues that I have to address,” Newsom said.
In August, however, as The Blaze noted, Newsom signed a law expanding health care benefits to cover more illegal immigrants.
And in January, he called for universal health care for all in his state, “regardless of your immigration status.”
Newsom signed a law in September allowing illegal immigrants to receive state identification.
