In a statement issued Saturday, Rep. Raúl Labrador, R-Idaho, said Democrats are “delusional” if they think the current shutdown will benefit them politically.
“The Democrats are shutting down the government in order to give amnesty to illegal aliens,” he said after the federal government officially shut down.
“They are denying vital government services that American citizens paid for in order to benefit those who have no legal right to live here. This is a shameful political stunt, and the Democrats are delusional if they think it will politically benefit them. We need Democrats to work with us in good faith to reopen the government,” he added.
On Thursday, Rep. Labrador voted for a spending bill that would keep the government open. Senate Democrats blocked a vote on the bill, shutting down the government.
According to the statement, Labrador’s offices are remaining open during the shutdown with reduced staff.
The shutdown, known by Republicans as “#SchumersShutdown” happened after Democrats didn’t get their way on illegal immigration.
Democrats, naturally, blamed Republicans and Trump, with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi tweeting that the shutdown happened because of GOP genetic material.
As Breitbart noted, however, Democrats are already feeling the heat.
Schumer, as it turns out, railed against shutting down the government over illegal immigration back in 2013, saying that to do so would create governmental “chaos.”
Here’s video of the 2013 edition of ABC’s This Week in which Schumer said that lawmakers “shouldn’t hold millions of people hostage” regardless of the issue.
Now, he and his fellow Democrats are holding hundreds of millions of Americans hostage in a ploy to give amnesty to illegal immigrants.
