Fresno State prof who said Trump must hang, Republicans must die, blames ‘right-wing smear campaign’

Fresno State prof Trump assassinated death
Lars Maischak

On Monday, Fox 26 reported that Lars Maischak, a history teacher at Fresno State, lashed out after news broke that the school administration is looking at tweets in which he said President Trump must hang and Republicans need to be executed in retaliation for the deportation of immigrants.

On Monday, Fresno State President Joseph Castro said the statements will be reviewed for potential threats of violence that may violate the law.

Maischak, Fox added, issued an email blaming the controversy on what he called a “right-wing smear machine.”  Of course, because conservatives who never heard of this guy before the weekend are to blame for his unhinged tweets advocating death.

Here’s just a portion of his email:

I am appalled that the president of the university is allowing himself to be instrumentalized for a right-wing smear campaign.

Specifically, the suggestion that I had made “potential direct threats of violence that may violate the law” is unwarranted. It constitutes an embrace by the university of the claims made by right-wing propaganda outlets.

I would have wished for an opportunity to explain my views to the university prior to any statement on its part on the substance of the public accusations against me. I was not contacted by them, even though I sent a message to the president on Saturday.

The Breitbart/DailyCaller piece that created a selective collage of some of my weeks-old tweets had the purpose of inciting a campaign of harrassment and intimidation by claiming I had either made a tangible threat against Mr. Trump, or had advocated for violence against either Mr. Trump, or Republicans in general.

Just a reminder — this is what he tweeted:

And there’s more — much more, like this tweet suggesting that “racists,” (read anyone to the right of center) needs to be shot in the head:

He continued, defending his position while denying that he ever advocated violence against the president or those who support him.

But a few minutes on his Twitter feed reveals a much different picture.

Maischak added:  “I am currently working on a paper laying out my argument for the comparison between the current Republican administration and party, and German Fascism, in more detail and with more differentiation.”

We can hardly wait.
