Fox Presidential Debate 8-6-2015 (video)

fox newsHighlights from last night’s Presidential debate on Fox  reveal a field of candidates that cover a wide range of ideas and abilities, but there were some moments of genuinely good answers from people like Trump and Cruz.

The Fox Presidential Debate

The Fox News team did not treat the candidates well, and in particular, Megyn Kelly was rude to Donald Trump. Her nasty swipe at his comments on Rosie O’Donnell may cost them some viewers in their regular programming. Some of the Fox panel’s questions were pointedly personal and not in keeping with what viewers should expect from a “fair and balanced” network.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Trump the winner

Donald Trump may have damaged himself by his refusal to pledge to not run a third party campaign. While he is still leading in the polls, that one mistake could cost him. Republicans need desperately to have a solid candidate that will not break away from the Republicans at the last minute.

The Drudge Report poll shows Trump leading at 38% from last night’s debate. Here are the numbers:
Ted Cruz: 15.5 percent
Neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson: 10.2 percent
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: 9.7 percent
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul: 9.3 percent
Ohio Gov. John Kasich: 4.9 percent
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker: 4.5 percent
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: 3.5 percent
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush: 2.5 percent
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: 1.4 percent

Huckabee scored some points with one statement, but still came out low at  3.5%.

“The military is not a social experiment. The purpose of the military is to kill people and break things. The purpose is to protect America.  It’s not to transform the culture by trying out some ideas.” Mike Huckabee

Dr. Carson, while extremely sharp, did not perform as well as many expected.  Support for Amnesty may have damaged Scott Walker, and Jeb Bush’s stand on immigration likely cost him. Rand Paul marginalized himself, according to Dick Morris.

Ted  Cruz was next in the polls. He showed his honesty and his answers had the ring of truth to them.

None of the participants were horrible in their responses (except for Fox News, of course). But the campaign will get harder and the questions will get nastier.

Can Trump stand up to the pressure and actually win this election? Even if he seems “shallow” on some issues, as a major business owner, he knows how to appoint smart people who do know about those issues. If we learned anything last night, it is that he is around to stay in the Presidential race.

In case you missed it last night, here is the long version:
