Female comic Maria Bamford files restraining order against Trump over threats of nuclear war
This could be a first in the annals of jurisprudence.
Maria Bamford, who, TMZ says, is a “a pretty huge stand-up comic,” has filed legal documents asking a judge for a restraining order against President Donald Trump, whose banter with North Korea leader Kim Jong-un over the relative size of their nuclear buttons has caused her anxiety and depression.
She specifically cites Trump’s famous comment, “I too have a nuclear button and my button works.” She also references Trump’s perceived threat to Hillary Clinton when he talked about gun activists knowing how to deal with her.
She’s not asking the judge to muzzle Trump … she just wants him to stay 1,000 yards clear of her.
Where to begin. How about with the high probability that she learned about Trump’s saber-rattling comments to Kim via the media or word of mouth, not through a direct meeting with the president. In other words, unless she cloisters herself away from public intercourse altogether (perhaps not a bad idea), she is likely to hear more unpleasantness from a man whose words she claims trouble her. His physical proximity to her is not an issue.
As for her fears, Kim has taken a more conciliatory tone and posture since his exchanges with the American president, meeting with South Korean diplomats for the first time ever in March to discuss an end to decades-old hostilities. Whether this was a direct result of Trump’s chest-beating, the fact remains that there is far less reason now to feel anxious over America’s relations with North Korea than there was during the entire eight years of the Obama presidency.

But what this is all really about is free publicity for Bamford’s upcoming comedy tour, which apparently is so important as to justify further clogging the already congested courts with a frivolous legal filing.
