Federal Court: Trump CAN Withhold Grant Money From Sanctuary Cities

President Trump won a significant victory in his crackdown on illegal immigration Wednesday when a federal appeals court ruled that the administration can withhold funding from so-called ‘sanctuary cities.’ trump sanctuary cities

The ruling by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals overturns a district court ruling indicating the Department of Justice (DOJ) can not impose conditions related to immigration law on such funding.

A group of seven blue states joined Bill de Blasio’s New York City in a lawsuit against the DOJ after it was announced that they planned to withhold money from entities that refused to share information on criminal illegal aliens.

The states – New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Washington, Massachusetts and Virginia – argued that the move to impose conditions on the funding was “unconstitutional.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

They lost that argument.

“Congress makes clear that a grant applicant demonstrates qualification by satisfying statutory requirements in such form and according to such rules as the Attorney General establishes,” the court’s opinion reads.

Americans Can Celebrate

The court victory is one to celebrate for law-abiding Americans.

Jeff Sessions, then-Attorney General and current senatorial candidate in Alabama announced that the Trump administration would be withholding funds from sanctuary cities in 2017.

“I urge our nation’s states and cities to consider carefully the harm they are doing to their citizens by refusing to enforce our immigration laws, and to rethink these policies,” Sessions warned.

“Such policies make their cities and states less safe, and put them at risk of losing valuable federal dollars.”

Big Blow to Dem Hopes of a Lawless Nation trump sanctuary cities

Now that the DOJ has been given the green light to prevent federal money from flowing to sanctuary cities, there is little doubt lawless Democrats will now sulk, pout, and probably continue further lawsuits.

It’s an especially devastating blow to de Blasio and Cuomo, the former whose city has made it illegal to say the words “illegal alien” in a “hateful” way, the latter who accuses law enforcement at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of wanting to “assault” illegal immigrants.

It will be a blow too, to former Nashville Mayor David Briley, a Democrat, who released a Spanish-language tutorial on how illegals can avoid ICE agents in Tennessee. As well as to Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf who pulled a similar stunt.

And to politicians in San Jose, where California sanctuary city policies allowed a previously deported illegal immigrant to commit the violent murder of a 59-year-old woman.

Thomas Homan, a former ICE chief under Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump, has said these lawmakers who aid and abet criminal illegal aliens need to face their own court proceedings.

“We’ve got to take [sanctuary cities] to court, and we’ve got to start charging some of these politicians with crimes,” he said.
