Two decades after documents relating to the investigation of then-President Bill Clinton by former Independent Counsel Ken Starr were sealed, a federal judge in the District of Columbia has ordered some of them to be released, according to Fox News and other news agencies.

The order came from Chief Judge Beryl A. Howell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The judge was acting in response to a Freedom of Information act request from CNN.

These documents, according to Newsweek, “could be used as a roadmap for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into possible collusion between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia.”

The president has steadfastly denied any collusion occurred. While he has indicated a willingness to be questioned by Mueller, various legal experts have publicly cautioned against it.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The timing is interesting because, as Politico notes in a report, with the mid-terms on the horizon and Democrats hoping to energize women to “push back on President Donald Trump in the midterms,” they don’t care to have the former president “anywhere near” the campaign because his own conduct 20 years ago could be embarrassing.

Freshman Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) perhaps unwittingly acknowledged the hypocrisy of Capitol Hill Democrats when she was quoted by Politico stating that Clinton’s presence anywhere in the campaign “just brings up a lot of issues that will be very tough for Democrats. And I think we all have to be clear about what the #MeToo movement was.”

It would be just as easy for critics to argue that Democrats need to be candid about their alleged history of double standards when it came to the former president.

As recalled by Fox News, “Starr’s investigation began with the suicide of Clinton adviser Vince Foster and the Clintons’ Whitewater real estate deal in Arkansas. But it later expanded to include accusations of sexual misconduct and perjury, including Clinton’s relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.”

It was not clear when the documents would be released, but Fox News indicated it could come soon. The court will reportedly review some other documents to determine whether they could also be released.
