Fairfield, California – A Fairfield homeowner fatally shot a home invasion suspect on Tuesday, after the man smashed in their front door.
The senior couple was having breakfast when a stranger came to the door and knocked. They saw him in the Ring system, so didn’t answer the door. Then the man started attempting to kick in the door. The Fairfield homeowner retrieved his legally owned weapon to defend himself and his wife, and ultimately the man broke down the door. The homeowner shot him.

This morning around 8:30am, Fairfield Police Dispatch received a 911 call from a resident on Vintage Valley Dr. The homeowner relayed to dispatch that someone had broken into his residence. The homeowner further informed dispatch he had shot the intruder and the intruder fled from the residence.
Fairfield Police responded to the location and checked on the welfare of the residents, a married couple in their 60s. Officers located the intruder across the street, detained him and found he was in possession of a loaded semiautomatic handgun with an extended magazine. Officers began life saving measures until Fairfield Fire personnel arrived on scene. The individual was ultimately pronounced deceased shortly after 9:00am.
While the couple was having breakfast, they heard a knock at the door, followed by the subject attempting to kick the door down. The husband, fearing for his and his wife’s safety obtained his legally owned firearm to defend them. The intruder ultimately broke the door completely down and entered the residence. The husband fired on the intruder who then fled.
The deceased intruder, has been identified as a 27-year-old male from Suisun City. We have also learned he was currently on parole for a violent crime out of Alameda County. The Fairfield Police Department’s Investigation’s Bureau has taken over the investigation…
The suspect’s name was not released. Officials did say that he had a criminal history, and that he was on parole for another violent home invasion in Alameda County. When police found him, he was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun with extended magazine. Even after life-saving measures implemented he died. The Fairfield homeowner, thankfully, was not arrested.
Timing is everything
The Fairfield homeowner may have been “in his 60’s” but the timing at which he retrieved his own gun and the moment the intruder kicked in the door was admirable. If he had waited, the couple might be dead or wounded in a gunfight.
A piece of plywood covering the front door of a home on Vintage Valley Drive is the only sign that something happened.
“I’m kind of blown away,” neighbor Nathan Biggs told FOX40. “I’ve lived here all my life, 18 years. Probably the most eventful thing that’s happened in this neighborhood.” …
Neighbors were concerned for the welfare of the homeowners, stopping by, even bringing flowers.
“They’re a wonderful family. And they’re well-liked in the community. And I’m just really grateful that nothing more serious might have happened to them,” said Cordelia resident Tamer Totah.
