When Cristie Landis got up one morning, she started to sign in to Facebook and got the “We’ve removed something you posted” complaint. After the admonishment to “review the Community Standards,” she learned that she was banned for three days because of her post.  What horrific, offensive nastiness did she sear people’s sensitive minds with? Her veteran husband’s headstone.
It’s Memorial Day weekend
Cristie was viewing a picture of a soldier holding his infant daughter just before leaving on deployment. A person named Ian made a nasty comment totally out of the sentiments being expressed by others who viewed it. Cristie responded to him, and then left a photo of her husband’s headstone in the comment stream. Someone reported that photo as “offensive.”

Someone reported her posting as “offensive” (one guess).  If Facebook refuses to honor a veteran, and wishes to stand with those who are hostile to the very core of American values…we can:
Spc Robert Everett Landis
Cristie’s husband, Spc. Robert E. Landis, was a US Army veteran (1992-1997).  He was an ARCOM (Army Commendation) medal recipient,  who served in the Persian Gulf in the aftermath of the 1991 war. Later, he was stationed at Headquarters 6th ASG Stuttgart, Germany. He received an Honorable Discharge as a Specialist in Personal Administration.
He died at 38 years old in a tragic accident in 2008 when a vehicle he was working on for a family member fell on him. He was beloved husband to Cristie, and loving father to Mariah, Caitlyn (herself an Army veteran), Logan and Erin Lee. One other child, Collin, passed on of SIDS.
Cristie says the Facebook’s action “disrespected ” her husband’s memory by calling his headstone “offensive.” Banning her for 3 days on top of the obnoxious remark was the icing on the Facebook cake.
Cristie and Robert met on a blind date in 1987. Both of them were still in high school – a “love at first sight” story. They were married  in 1988 after a judge “issued an order to get married” when he saw that they loved each other in spite of their young age. After the family began to grow and Robert struggled to find a job, he went to the Army recruiter and signed up. He served for 5 years before his family’s needs sent him home on a 5-8.
Robert was a patriotic American who loved his country and his family. He never failed to work hard, both for his family and his country.
