Equality Act that Isn’t Equal – House Passes HR 5

All House Democrats and eight Republicans passed HR 5, “The Equality Act” on May 17, sending it to the Senate. The final vote count was 236-173. This politically correct nonsense essentially deletes the RFRA – Religious Freedom Restoration Act that was passed in 1993. It also allows transgender males to compete against female athletes…even Feminist athletes have been sounding the alarm on that issue. Of course, that’s not all it will do if the Senate passes it.

The Liberty Counsel noted,

This “Equality Act” extends federal protections to include sexual orientation, gender identity and pregnancy, that is, abortion. HR 5 applies to employment, housing, rental, public accommodation and more. In addition, the terms “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” will be defined to mean “pregnancy, childbirth or a related medical condition.” In other words, under the terms of this bill, “pregnancy, childbirth or a related medical condition … shall not receive less favorable treatment than other physical conditions.” The “Equality Act” also expands the definition of public accommodations to include places or establishments that provide (1) exhibitions, recreation, exercise, amusement, gatherings or displays; (2) goods, services or programs and (3) transportation services…”

Christian News stated:

H.R. 5 is bad for freedom,” Rep. Ross Spano, R-Fla., told the Washington Times. “It would immediately expose churches to ‘legal liability’ for simply following their earnest beliefs.”

“[T]he so-called ‘Equality Act’ that the House has passed … undermines women’s equality by denying female athletes fair competition in sports, depriving women of business opportunities designed for them, and forcing them to share private, intimate spaces with men who identify as female,” also remarked Kristen Waggoner, senior vice president of the U.S. legal division of Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).

The Equality Act has been called a “Thinly Veiled Death Sentence” to the First Amendment. It contains NO RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION for anyone’s deeply held beliefs.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“If it survives a vote in the Senate, this legislation will represent one of the most egregious assaults on religious liberty ever foisted on the people of this great nation. It therein imposes a thinly veiled death-sentence to the First Amendment to the Constitution and takes away the protections against tyranny handed down to us by our Founding Fathers.” Dr. James Dobson

The 8 Republicans who voted for HR 5 are:
Susan Brooks (Ind. – 05); Brian Fitzpatrick (Penn. – 01); Elise Stefanik (N.Y. – 21); Greg Walden (Ore. – 02); John Katko (N.Y. – 24); Mario Diaz-Balart (Fla. – 25); Tom Reed (N.Y. – 23) and Will Hurd (Texas – 23).

Contact your Senators and tell them to vote against S 788. Treating people as you would like to be treated is at the core of American values. Being forced to comply with the agenda of any group that violates your deeply held beliefs and your right hold such beliefs is not. Tyranny by any other name is still tyranny.
