Double Amputee Cop Matias Ferreira Thwarts Gunman at Long Island Strip Club

Farmingdale, NY – We wrote about Matias Ferreira back in 2017 when he first became a police officer in Suffolk County. He’s been helping the people of his community be safe for a while now. But on Saturday morning at around 3:30 a.m., he thwarted a gunman who began shooting in the parking lot of the Mirage Gentleman’s Club on Long Island. Officer Ferreira is a double amputee, the first in the nation to serve as a police officer. He is also a Marine veteran.

Matias became the nation’s first double amputee police officer in 2017

Officer Ferreira responded to reports that a fight was about to break out at the club. He saw a man identified as Greg Goodley, 25, allegedly take a gun out of his waistband and fire it towards the building. Ferreira was quick to order him to drop the weapon and get on the ground. He was able to immediately take the man into custody. The man complied with the police commands, according to Pix11.

Goodley was charged with criminal weapons possession, reckless endangerment, and criminal use of a firearm.

We’ll never know what could have happened if Ferreira had not stopped Goodley from shooting at the strip club, but based on past incidents, we can guess. Ferreira was doing his job, as he would likely tell people who make a big deal out of it.  It’s a big deal because police officers across the country stop potential killers every day – we just hear about the situations that don’t turn out so well.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

From our previous story:

In 2011, Lance Corporal Ferreira was a machine gunner with the 1st Battalion 2nd Marines out of Camp LeJeune that was deployed to Helmand Province in Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. As he and his team were setting up their equipment, he went to retrieve some other items, and  jumped off the roof… only to land on a 30 pound bomb.

The blast shattered his legs, broke his pelvis and shattered his femur, which meant that both limbs had to be amputated from the knees. He says that his CO and the team were there with him for support as he was airlifted to Germany. Recovery took about year at Walter Reed hospital outside of Washington.

He graduated from the police academy in 2016. In 2017 he joined the Suffolk County Police Force. In November of 2018, according to Breitbart, he was given a home built specifically for his needs from Homes for Our Troops. Because this situation was stopped early, no one was injured.
