Democrat candidate for Sheriff suggests killing people to take their guns — Bloomberg moms laugh, applaud
In a video posted to Twitter on Saturday, Buncombe County, North Carolina, Democrat Sheriff candidate R. Daryl Fisher suggested to a group affiliated with Michaels Bloomberg’s Moms Demand Action that he would have no problem killing defiant law-abiding gun owners to take their firearms.
“What about people that already had weapons? Well, I’m gonna tell you now, don’t buy into the scare tactics, don’t believe the scare tactics, because you’ve heard people say ‘You’ll have to pry my guns from my cold dead hands,’” he said.
“OK,” he said as he shrugged to delighted laughter and applause.

His comments angered a number of people, prompting Fisher to respond on Facebook:
This post is for all of the people who have posted false information about my position on proposing sensible gun legislation as a candidate for Buncombe County Sheriff. As a citizen, human being, and Candidate for Sheriff, I would like to recommend the following legislation:
Ban the sale of high capacity magazines;
Ban the sale of any mechanism that will allow a weapon to fire in rapid succession;
Raise the age to purchase any weapon to age 21;
And ensure proper background checks are done for purchase permits.
These are sensible measures and are a big step at protecting our communities. Stop pointing fingers and bring solid and sensible solutions instead of spreading false information and propaganda.
Fisher also claimed his statement was a “joke” in another Facebook post:
The crowd laughed and I made a joke. I admit the joke was a mistake and I should not have joked. But I go on to relay that the government cannot take away any guns or any items that were legally sold before any new laws take effect. To do this would be unconstitutional because that would constitute what is called an ex post facto law. Responsible gun owners have nothing to worry about. We have to do something different because what has been done is not working.
A “joke?” Seriously? Killing gun owners is now a joke?
Writing at Oathkeepers, David Codrea observed:
What he’s obscuring is that law enforcement officials can be extremely influential in persuading lawmakers to act, and as sheriff, he would enthusiastically enforce citizen disarmament edicts. That he would take an oath to the Constitution seems not to trouble Fisher, as there are evidently no citizen disarmament laws he would refuse to issue to his subordinates or to obey himself.
He would enthusiastically enforce forbidding citizens old enough to serve in the military or the “unorganized militia” of U.S. Code from purchasing guns. He would ban standard capacity magazines for everyone (except the “Only Ones”), along with any firearm that has “some reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia [or] is any part of the ordinary military equipment, or that its use could contribute to the common defense.”
Fisher’s “joke” didn’t sit too well with many.
“The only joke is you and the idea that you should have any kind of public leadership position. You’re a fascist. If you get elected people need to make it impossible for you to function,” one person said on Facebook.
“ I saw the video where you laughed about taking guns from people by force. That can’t be explained away. So your oath as a police officer means nothing and your oath as a sheriff, if your county is unfortunate enough to vote you in, will mean nothing. Which means you are a hypocrite and a liar and not worthy to wear a badge,” another person said.
“The actions in which you advocate in your comment to the moms demand action is the surest way to plunge this country in to the next civil war ..you sir are a mental midget who should be precluded from holding the highest law enforcement job of your county …I hope the voters in your county defeat you in a stellar fashion or better yet why don’t you just withdrawal from the race and save them the trouble and you the humiliation,” a third person added.
Fisher’s Facebook page was hammered with a number of similar comments.
Codrea further said that Fisher is “one of three Democrat candidates out of a field of seven,” and Buncombe County “is the only Democratic bastion in western North Carolina” and it went big for both Obama and Hillary.
“They’ll be ‘OK’ with a badged gun-grabber,” he concluded.
