COVID-19 Medications –Man Dies After Taking Fish Tank Cleaner Instead of Medication
The President has been touting hydroxychloroquine as a new potential treatment for Coronavirus. Two, shall we call them uninformed people, grabbed chloroquine phosphate, which is fish tank cleaner, not an experimental medication. One died, the other survived, but decided to blame President Trump for their own stupidity. The COVID-19 medications are yet experimental, but are showing great promise.
Reason wrote:
“We saw Trump on TV—every channel—and all of his buddies said that this was safe,” the woman told NBC. “Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure.”
Many in the media are also blaming Trump for this death, either implicitly or explicitly. “Arizona Man Dies After Taking Chemical in Coronavirus Treatment Touted by President Trump,” proclaimed Time magazine. CBS initially reported the same. Prominent #NeverTrump pundits George Conway and Rick Wilson suggested Trump was morally complicit. Business Insider put the unnamed woman’s condemnation of Trump in its headline.
Some headlines were altered—often without acknowledgment—after the full picture emerged. Axios, at least, explained its decision to revisit its initial impression: “This story has been updated to reflect the fact that the form of chloroquine the couple ingested was used in aquariums—and it was not a medication.”
It figures that the media would want to blame the President for everything. But let’s think about this: we have a President who is doing everything in his considerable power to handle this major crisis, so shouldn’t he have mentioned the hope of a new medication? Even Reason dinged the President for mentioning it before trials were conducted.
Reaching out with some kind of hope is important at this time. The anti-malarial medication hydroxychloroquine, and chloroquine do show promise. In some cases azithromycin (an anti-bacterial which reduces inflammation in the lungs) also shows promise for treating the lung inflammation in coronavirus. The President has ordered the COVID-19 medications fast-tracked for FDA testing.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
New York is testing the experimental COVID-19 medications this week, as well as Plasma serum therapy from people who have had coronavirus. Cuomo said that they obtained 17,000 doses of hydroxychloroquine. Any positive result will fast track them even more to the rest of the country, and nip this virus fast.
One man in Florida said goodbye to his loved ones, thinking he would die, but when he was given one of the experimental medications, he woke up the next morning and was fine (according to the New York Post). But he got the COVID-19 medications, not a fish tank cleaner.
You can’t fix stupid.
