Confused Boston Mayor: Get Rid of Abe Lincoln, Keep Slave Owner Faneuil

The Boston Mayor is apparently confused. He is for removal of the Emancipation Memorial statue of Abraham Lincoln, but opposes renaming of Faneuil Hall which is the site of a slave market, owned by a man who owned slaves. (Breitbart)

In 2016, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh tweeted that Faneuil Hall was the “cradle of liberty.”

NPR reported in 2018,

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“The building has been a meeting place for revolutionaries and abolitionists. Frederick Douglass spoke here. But it’s also a relic of the slave trade in Boston. Peter Faneuil was a merchant who made money off slavery and owned slaves himself. Slaves were bought and sold right next to what is now Faneuil Hall.”

But the Mayor is happy to remove the statue of Abraham Lincoln -why? Because the statue has a depiction of a slave on it and that “offends” protesters. Never mind the history of the statue, never mind that it has stood in the location for 150 years, just never mind all that. History is anathema to leftists – they want to destroy it so that no one will ever know it existed. Which guarantees it will be repeated.

Abraham gave a famous speech before becoming the 16th President.

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.

I do not expect the Union to be dissolved – I do not expect the house to fall – but I do expect it will cease to be divided.

It will become all one thing, or all the other.

Either the opponents of slavery, will arrest the further spread of it, and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in course of ultimate extinction; or its advocates will push it forward till it shall become alike lawful in all the States, old as well as new-North as well as South.” Abraham Lincoln, June 16, 1858

The words, “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” came from the Bible. They were true for Abraham Lincoln speaking them at the circumstances brewing for the Civil War, and they are as true today as they were when Jesus spoke them.

We are at a crossroads in America. Will we become an anarchist haven or will civilized people take back control? Everyone gets to choose. The United States cannot continue to be divided or it will fall. And that alternative does not promise to be “fun.” The Boston Mayor appears to be oblivious to those ideas.
