Collierville Shooting: 2 Dead, Counting Suspect, 12 Injured

On Thursday, a gunman opened fire inside a Kroger Grocery Store in Collierville, Tennessee. He shot 13 people, one of whom died, then turned the gun on himself (total 14). Police Chief Dale Lane stated that the shooting was the most horrific incident to happen in Collierville in its history. The suspect was identified as a “third party vendor” of the store named UK Thang. Police gave little information on the suspect because they didn’t want to give him notoriety. As of Friday, six of the injured were still in the hospital.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Collierville Police, Memphis Police, and other agencies responded to the call of an active shooter at Kroger on Thursday shortly after 1:30 p.m. (Collierville is about 30 miles East of Memphis in Shelby County.) When they arrived they found multiple people shot in various parts of the grocery store. the suspect’s vehicle was parked in the lot.

The initial police dispatch audio, available on Broadcastify, said that there were “four gunshot victims” in the rear of Kroger by the dumpster, one person was “down near the deli with a gunshot wound to possible shoulder,” and “another party was down outside Kroger, with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and back.” Multiple subjects were “down at the rear of Kroger.”

Chief Lane stated that there were a total of 13 victims, not counting the deceased shooter. One of those victims died at the scene. The deceased victim of the shooting was Olivia King, a mother of three well known in the community for her faith and service.

The motive is unknown at this time. At least one of the injured was in the intensive care unit, with another in surgery when the Chief gave the press conference yesterday.

Just three months ago, the local police attended an active shooter training, which affected how fast they responded and how coordinated the effort was handled. Social media was awash with anti-gunners yesterday after the news broke on the Collierville shooting. Kroger stores are not gun free zones, but the store policy is to follow state and local gun laws.
