CNN claims in unverified report that Russian bots promoted pro-gun message after Florida shooting

It seems there’s nothing that Russian bots can’t do.  On Friday, CNN, the outlet viewed by many as the least-trusted name in network news, claimed that Russian-connected bots are spreading pro-gun messages on Twitter in the wake of the tragic Florida school shooting.  CNN even admitted that it has not independently verified the report.

According to the propaganda outlet (Emphasis added):

Russia-linked bots are promoting pro-gun messages on Twitter in an attempt to sow discord in the aftermath of the Florida school shooting, monitoring groups say.

Hashtags, topics and URLs related to the shooting overwhelmingly feature in the tweets pushed by these automated Twitter accounts in the past 48 hours, according to Hamilton 68, a tool launched by the Alliance for Securing Democracy to track what it describes as “Russian propaganda and disinformation efforts online.”

The alliance is a group housed at The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) think tank to “defend against, deter, and raise the costs on Russian and other actors’ efforts to undermine democracy and democratic institutions,” according to its mission statement.

The group does not disclose which accounts it tracks and CNN has not independently verified its findings.

Translation: We don’t know if the report is true or not and we really don’t care because it fits our anti-gun agenda and it helps push our tinfoil-hate conspiracy theories involving Russia.

“Russian bots … is there anything they can’t do?” Twitchy asked.  Apparently not.

Twitter weighed in:

They probably wrote the whole Constitution, and probably had a hand in creating the entire space-time continuum…  For all we know, CNN is really a Russian bot, given all the discord and hate it has spread.

Indeed.  Once upon a time, CNN actually produced something that resembled “news.”  Today, it’s become the anti-Trump version of the “Onion” of the cable news outlets.

There is no proof, and they admit they haven’t verified it…

It sure looks like it…
