Nevada- Clark County Democrat Robert Telles was arrested in the case of the murder of Las Vegas Review-Journal investigative reporter Jeff German on Sept 3. He was taken out of his home on a stretcher onSept 7, although details of why that was the case are unclear.

Jeff German was an investigative reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, who reported on political malfeasance and organized crime. He was known in the community for about 30 years. In May, he did articles from information received from whistleblowers that Telles created a “hostile work environment,” along with an inappropriate relationship with a coworker. His articles may have been the reason Telles lost a recent election.
Telles claimed that German’s allegations were all fabricated, and accused German of going through his trash.

In June, Telles was also accused of possibly leaving a child in his vehicle while it was running. His response to the claim triggered a police presence.
Police noted his anger in social media posts:
German was stabbed multiple times on September 3 outside his Las Vegas residence after an altercation with someone. The suspect wore an orange jacket and large hat.
Police executed a search warrant at Telles’ residence on Sept 7, and towed his car, which matched the description of the suspect vehicle – a maroon SUV.

Journalists can’t do the important work our communities require if they are afraid a presentation of facts could lead to violent retribution. We thank Las Vegas police for their urgency and hard work and for immediately recognizing the terrible significance of Jeff’s killing.
