City of Reno Flies Gay Flag Instead of American Flag
Someone in Reno, Nevada, replaced the American Flag with a Gay Pride flag on City Hall. Mayor Hillary Schieve says she didn’t order the American flag taken down, but says they were going to fly both after a gay pride event in the city over the weekend.
“The city of Reno honors and respects the men and women who serve our country and we apologize to those we may have offended. While we made an error in not flying the American flag along with the pride flag, when we discovered we were not flying both, we immediately returned to flying the American flag. Neither the Mayor nor City Council was aware we were not flying the American flag. The City was proud to participate in pride weekend and will continue to celebrate our diverse community.” (City of Reno statement)
Let’s be blunt here: The “gay pride flag” is NOT an official national or state flag. It represents a group only.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The Federal guidelines state:
“No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America, except during church services conducted by naval chaplains at sea, when the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for the personnel of the Navy. No person shall display the flag of the United Nations or any other national or international flag equal, above, or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of, the flag of the United States at any place within the United States or any Territory or possession thereof…”
By Sunday night around 9 p.m., the pride flag had been removed and the American flag returned, but many were angry over the incident, even some gays were upset.
As much as the city leadership denies they knew about it, it is unlikely that anyone could have changed that flag without approval from one of them. It’s more than being offended at this point, it is a huge affront to every United States military member, veteran, and the citizens of America.
Though the mayor has apologized strongly and has taken “responsibility,” whoever did it needs a good smackdown. And people don’t believe her. They shouldn’t — all this pretend shock is occurring too often in political circles.
The following remarks from the KTVN TV Facebook page are a case in point:
Megan McCoy Bull. How about the person who made this decision steps up and takes responsibility for being an idiot? “When we discovered we were not flying both…” Really? Like the American flag came down on its own and you “discovered” it had left its honored place on the flagpole? Nice try, but you suck at lying.
Kenneth D. Sjoen That twit mayor knew last week when she told Public Works personnel to replace the American flag with the LGBT flag !! Disgraceful !! YOU get what YOU vote for !
