A gunman opened fire at a Walmart in the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso Texas. The first police alert was given at 11:30 a.m. Mountain time. At least 10 people are dead, up to 30 injured. (Texas Tribune) Suspect is in custody; El Paso Police spokesman Enrique Carrillo stated there was no imminent threat at this time.

Initial reports stated there were “multiple” shooters, but as usual in these kinds of cases, that was not the case. Police reiterated that there was no imminent threat at this time, but were continuing to search the perimeter as a precaution.
Univ. Medical Center of El Paso tells @NBCNews that they have received at least 10 victims with “Level 1” injuries, which is the most serious level; adds that multiple victims were taken to multiple hospitals. NBC Tweet
Reports stated that the gunman, a 21 year old male, was armed with what appeared to be an AK-47. He opened fire in the parking lot, then walked into the Walmart Supercenter and began shooting. His name has not been released.
Businesses were locked down. The mall is closed now due to police activity. Police evacuated shoppers from the mall and the Walmart.

Circumstances surrounding this incident have not yet been released. It is currently unclear whether the suspect is merely “in custody” or was shot. The ATF is assisting. President Trump has been briefed and was in contact with Gov Greg Abbott and AG William Barr.
