While many in the #LGBTQIAPK (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexual, Asexual, Pansexual and Polygamous, and Kinkiness) community firmly adhere to the notion that their panoply of various sexual lifestyles are perfectly normal and healthy for the human animal, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has just released data that may put a damper on their soiree. As reported by Rachel Hoover of CNSnews.com on May 26, 2016, the CDC has published a medical review stating that HIV infection rates are in general, high among transgender women in the United States, and particularly high among black transgender women, when compared to other groups.
On the CDC’s HIV Among Transgender People official website, the Atlanta-based center “cites a systematic review of various studies which showed that 28% of all transgender women had HIV.” But the bad news doesn’t end there.
Also cited was that according to the numerous studies, “56% of black/African American transgender women had positive HIV test results compared to 17% of white or 16% of Hispanic/Latina transgender women.” Blacks transitioning from biological men to those who identify as women “are more likely to have HIV than transgender women of other races/ethnicities.”
Perhaps best illustrating just how severe the problem really is, the CDC adds that “from the HIV testing events reported to the CDC in 2013, ‘the highest percentages of newly identified HIV-positive persons were among transgender persons.'”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
While it does sometime get confusing for the uninitiated as to the wherefores and the whys of who exactly falls into the correct classification, Hoover defines a transgender woman as someone who is still a biological male but identifies as a female, and of course, vice versa. Arguably the nation’s most well known transgendered individual would be gold medal Olympian Bruce Jenner, who now identifies as Caitlyn Jenner.
Noted by Britain’s The Daily Mail last year, Jenner has gone under both the knife as well as make-up brush to at least present the façade of womanhood. However, there is one procedure Jenner has reportedly taken a pass on – having his penis and testicles removed.
Perhaps a contributing factor in the sky high rates of HIV among the male-to-female (MtF) transgendered demographic was recently brought to the public’s attention by the Washington Post. According to reporter Lenny Bernstein, the overwhelming majority of MtF transgenders elect not to have their external genitalia removed in favor of the faux-vagina.
