California Craziness: Now They Want to Ban Diesel Trucks to Fix Racism

The California craziness is at it again (is it in the water?).  The California Air Resources Board (CARB) wants to ban all diesel trucks by 2040, requiring them to be fully electric. And they’re doing it to …wait for it… “rectify racist practices.” Didn’t California just have a problem with their electric grid? There isn’t enough electricity in the entire state to plug in all the electric cars they want as it is.

The despicable diesel

The proposal would require medium and heavy-duty trucks entering ports and railyards to be fully electric by 2035, according to the report. CARB believes that such freight vehicles should be banned because the diesel emissions that come from such vehicles disproportionately affect low-income and minority communities due to racist zoning policies.

“Decades of racist and classist practices, including red-lining and siting decisions, have concentrated heavy-duty vehicle and freight activities in these communities, with concomitant disproportionate pollution burdens,” the regulators stated. “CARB has legal and moral obligations to lessen these burdens.”

CARB must vote on the proposal to ban diesel semi-trucks on Oct. 27. The proposed regulations would also require state and local government vehicle fleets to be fully electric by 2027, according to the report.   The Daily Caller

So they want to force truckers to go fully electric, stop all their emissions because minority communities have more pollution than white areas. But the technology for plugging in the heavy trucks is even worse that that of a car: there isn’t enough battery power to go far enough for long haul trucks. Talk about a supply chain problem: having to stop every 300 hundred miles or so to charge the batteries in the truck for anywhere from 15 minutes to 8 hours is ridiculous. Talk about slowing up the supply chain.

Even with the California voucher that gives a break of $120,000 for purchase of an electric big rig, it’s well, pricey. And the average electric semi only goes 250 miles before needing a charge. California craziness is in full swing- they’ve already mangled the supply chain by forcing independent truckers to be employees of companies instead of contractors (which is a law opposed by most truckers).
