Lawless California to consider becoming sanctuary state

California secede #CalexitOn Monday, CBS Los Angeles reported that lawmakers in the Golden State are considering legislation that if passed, will make all of California a sanctuary state to spite President Trump.

According to CBS LA:

California may prohibit local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities, creating a border-to-border sanctuary in the nation’s largest state as legislative Democrats ramp up their efforts to battle President Donald Trump’s migration policies.

The legislation is scheduled for its first public hearing Tuesday as the Senate rushes to enact measures that Democratic lawmakers say would protect immigrants from the crackdown that the Republican president has promised.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

While many of California’s largest cities — including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento — have so-called sanctuary policies that prohibit police from cooperating with immigration authorities, much of the state does not.

Fox News reported that California Democrats advanced the legislation Tuesday, which includes measures to provide illegal immigrants with taxpayer-funded attorneys and “hamper any attempts by the Trump administration to create a Muslim registry.”

Never mind that there is no such registry being considered.

Fox added:

San Francisco filed a lawsuit against Trump earlier Tuesday, claiming his executive order that would cut funding from sanctuary cities is unconstitutional and a “severe invasion of San Francisco’s sovereignty.”

San Francisco receives about $1.2 billion a year in federal funding for services that include housing, health and social services, and homelessness.

In Sacramento, Democrats on the state Senate Public Safety Committee voted along party lines to prohibit state and local law enforcement from cooperating with customs agents

“We want to make sure that police officers don’t abandon their beat and go enforce immigration laws,” said Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon of Los Angeles, author of the statewide sanctuary measure.

The California Police Chiefs Association and the Peace Officers Research Association of California have not commented on the legislation, the Mercury News said.

The measure now goes to the Senate Appropriations Committee, Fox said.
