Calif Politicians Targeted by Chinese Spy

What is it with Democrats and the Chinese? Christine Fang, who is suspected of gaining access to powerful Calif politicians, including Rep Eric Swalwell (D-CA), was the subject of a counter-intelligence probe between 2011 and 2015, as well as an investigation by Axios that spanned a year.

FLASHBACK: In January 2019, Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell said Russia was our "number one geopolitical foe."

However, a Chinese spy had "close ties" with Swalwell & she fundraised for him.

Fang raised funds for Eric Swalwell’s 2014 election campaign. She was careful not to donate to the campaign herself, but she “bundled” funds for him. The intelligence community was so alarmed by her behavior that they issued an “defensive briefing” to Swalwell in 2015. He was one of the Calif politicians on her ‘list.’

“Fang “was a bundler” for Swalwell and other candidates, according to a Bay Area political operative with direct knowledge of her efforts. A current U.S. intelligence official confirmed her activity for Swalwell; a local elected official also said she brought in donors for other candidates. Bundlers persuade others to write checks for campaigns; they can bring in substantial sums of money as well as deepen the campaign’s engagement with target communities, making bundlers a valuable and thus potentially influential ally to a candidate.

The Bay Area political operative who witnessed Fang fundraising on Swalwell’s behalf was concerned whether donors she brought in were legally permitted to donate. They found no evidence of illegal contributions.

Fang facilitated the potential assignment of interns into Swalwell’s offices, the political operative said. In at least one case, an intern recommended by Fang was placed into Swalwell’s D.C. office, this person said. A current U.S. intelligence official confirmed the intern placement.

For Fang, targeting Swalwell made sense. His 2012 campaign — which was something of a longshot bid, pitting a young and relatively inexperienced city official against a longtime incumbent from the same party — relied heavily on Asian American support, said a former congressional staffer from the East Bay.” Bethany Allen-Ebrahimian, Zach Dorfman of the Aspen Institute writing at Axios

Swalwell immediately cut ties with her, and she abruptly left the US in mid 2015…likely because she was the subject of an intelligence investigation. He is not accused of wrongdoing in this case. Although it is interesting that she is suspected of using sex as an avenue to connect with other politicians, which is a well known spy technique.

“At least two separate sexual interactions with elected officials, including one of these Midwestern mayors, were caught on FBI electronic surveillance of Fang, according to two intelligence officials. Axios was unable to identify or speak to the elected officials.” Axios

This story makes it clear that the Chinese spy, who was also a fundraiser for @RepSwalwell, had “sexual relationships” with elected officials. Calif politicians in the crosshairs of Chinese spies

The Bay area in California has one of the oldest Chinese communities in the United States. China’s spies want to keep tabs on these communities to leverage them and remove anti-regime opposition. They not only surveill these people, but have been known to force them out of America and send them back to Communist China if they do not comply with the intimidation attempt. There are many Chinese spies in the area, according to the US intelligence services.

Mayors, legislators, Calif politicians, all were targets of this major Chinese spy operation. Axios wrote that few people knew her on a personal level, and some said she was secretive, even somewhat suspicious, but everyone ‘liked her’ as extremely active in the political arena. She is suspected of spying for the MSS, Chinas’s civilian spy agency.

Axios stated that the FBI ‘declined’ to comment. The Chinese embassy in Washington DC ‘declined’ to comment.
