Bye, Bye, Lori Lightfoot. Chicago Dumps Controversial Mayor

"Chicago just became a better place"

Lori Lightfoot has been a boondoggle since she was initially elected in April of 2019. She had an extremely ” strained” relationship with the city’s police force and has borne the brunt of ire from Chicagoans and business owners for rampant crime in the ‘windy city.’ On Monday, she came in 3rd in the Mayoral election, the first Mayor to lose an election since Jane Byrne was defeated in 1983. She failed to make the runoff election and gave a concession speech to solidify the results. Of course, she blamed her loss on racism, since she was the city’s first Black/lesbian Mayor.

“Crime was a central theme in the race, with the city’s soaring crime rate serving as the backdrop to Lightfoot’s dismal approval rating, according to one poll. Throughout Lightfoot’s tenure, Lightfoot received sharp criticism for her strained relationship with Chicago’s police force, which resulted in a significant reduction in police officer headcount coinciding with a rise in crime. Lightfoot oversaw the downsizing and “defunding” of the police during her time in office. Despite police department records indicating that homicides in Chicago rose to their highest number in 25 years during 2021, police presence continued to decrease in the city.

During Lightfoot’s tenure, Chicago experienced a higher rate of homicides and overall crime than New York City and Los Angeles. Lightfoot often dismissed Chicago’s evident crime and murder issue, at times claiming that Chicago was a “safe” city. She defended her record on the matter, claiming to have implemented a “multitiered strategy” to combat gang and gun crimes.” TTN

Lightfoot is proud of her record, but the people of Chicago appear not as enthusiastic. During the pandemic, she was seen having her hair done even as her own rules banned people from going to the salon. The optics did not work in her favor, no matter her own arrogant narrative about needing to keep up with her “hygiene.”

Twitter users celebrated her loss with abandon.

The Chicago police union backs Paul Vallas, the Chicago Public Schools CEO and city budget director who ran on a ‘law and order’ platform. The other candidate will be Brandon Johnson, former teacher and Cook County Board of Commissioners member. The runoff election is set for April 4. It’s the end of a four-year run of incompetence for Lori Lightfoot.
