BuzzFeed Accusation about Trump “Not Accurate” Says Mueller Team
It was probably quite a surprise when, after a “bombshell” report from BuzzFeed said that Trump ordered Michael Cohen to lie to Congress, Mueller’s team called it “inaccurate.” At least one of the authors told CNN that he hadn’t “personally” reviewed the “evidence.” But Democrats jumped on the report and pushed the impeachment idea in nearly every media outlet. And BuzzFeed hopped on THAT bandwagon too. Then they wanted to know just exactly what was wrong with their story that Mueller’s folks disputed it.
The Buzzfeed article was written by Jason Leopold and Anthony Cormier.
“BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate.” Peter Carr, Mueller’s spokesman
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
In response to the statement tonight from the Special Counsel’s spokesman: We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he’s disputing.

History lesson: BuzzFeed also was first to spread the entire Steele dossier that no one else would touch with a ten foot pole. So we’re supposed to believe them now? Just a reminder. They even acknowledged that the dossier was not verified and full of “a number of factual errors,” but published it anyway. CNN then picked up portions of it, not all of it, which tells you something about them as well.
Democrats Adam Schiff, Joaquin Castro, and Ted Lieu on the House Intelligence Committee, and Jerry Nadler on the House Judiciary, were literally salivating at the possibility that Trump ordered Cohen to lie to Congress. They ran with it and didn’t bother to check it first because their sole desire is to destroy this President.
We know that the President has engaged in a long pattern of obstruction. Directing a subordinate to lie to Congress is a federal crime. The @HouseJudiciary Committee’s job is to get to the bottom of it, and we will do that work.

The allegation that the President of the United States may have suborned perjury before our committee in an effort to curtail the investigation and cover up his business dealings with Russia is among the most serious to date. We will do what’s necessary to find out if it’s true. https://t.co/GljBAFqOjh

And the media? Nearly every news outlet did a story on the “news” that Trump told Cohen to lie.
“I commend Bob Mueller’s office for correcting the BuzzFeed false story that Pres. Trump encouraged Cohen to lie. I ask the press to take heed that their hysterical desire to destroy this President has gone too far. They pursued this without critical analysis all day. #FAKENEWS” Rudy Guiliani
It’s going to be a long year.
