Burlington Homeowner: Shotgun vs Axe

Never bring an axe to a gunfight. That would at least be common sense, but it appears that one North Carolina man didn’t get the memo.  A Burlington homeowner heard a commotion at his backdoor and  went to investigate. He found William Lawrence Cowan, 29, attempting to break into his home with an axe that belonged to the homeowner. He retrieved his shotgun, pointed it at the suspect, and whalla! the man dropped the axe and ran. (WSOCTV)

Burlington Police posted on Facebook,

On November 17, 2019 at approximately 0901hrs, officers responded to the 700 block of Edinburgh Ct. in regards to a subject attempting to break into the residence. At the time of this incident the residence was occupied. The suspect was attempting to gain entry into the house, through the back door utilizing an ax that belonged to the homeowners.

The homeowner retrieved a shotgun and confronted the suspect who was later identified as, William Lawrence Cowan W/M (DOB:10/15/1990) 439 W Front St. Apt. C Burlington, NC. The victim pointed the weapon at the suspect as he was still attempting to break into the residence. This caused the suspect to immediately flee the scene on foot, leaving the ax. A perimeter was set up quickly, and Cowan has apprehended approximately two blocks over at Warwick Ct. at Woodland Ave. without incident. The homeowners positively identified Cowan as the perpetrator.

Cowan was charged with the following:
Break or Enter a building with the intent to commit felony/larceny, and he was turned over to the custody of the Alamance County Detention Center under a $5,000 bond.

There were no injuries in this incident.

Also, the Burlington Police Department is actively seeking anyone with information regarding this investigation. We ask you to call the Burlington Police Department at (336) 229-3500. Liberals hate these kind of incidents. They don’t like homeowners to be armed. But the majority of incidents like this never need a weapon to be fired at all. Like Cowan, most burglars will run when confronted by a gun of any kind. If they don’t, they pay for it.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
