Boko Haram Terrorists Pledge Allegiance to ISIS

The leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau,  pledged allegiance to ISIS -the Islamic State- in  a video posted online Saturday. ISIS now has increased its stranglehold. Militants in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Pakistan, parts of the Sinai in Egypt, and now Nigeria all claim to have given allegiance to ISIS.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Boko Haram has claimed a caliphate in Africa for some time. They have been well-funded and well-armed all along. In the past, the group was thought to have ties to Al-Qaeda.  This announcement gives a propaganda boost to both ISIS and Boko Haram.

The Guardian and RT both claimed this was a propaganda tool that was more symbolic than real. But the SITE Intelligence group stated,

“Boko Haram is now being elevated from a local jihadi group to an important arm of the Islamic State. With Boko Haram’s wide network in North Africa, the Islamic State’s projection of creating an Islamic Caliphate is gaining headway. Furthermore, Islamic State’s infrastructure, resources and military capabilities will enable Boko Haram to expand its operations and control even faster in North Africa.” SITE

In an offensive started over the weekend, troops from Chad and Niger attacked Boko Haram in Nigeria. Reportedly 135 members of the terrorist group surrendered to the African coalition troops. Nigeria has been unable to stand against the Boko Haram terrorists- they are ill equipped to fight them.

Boko Haram detonated 4 bombs that killed over 50 people and injured well over 36 on Saturday.Their constant attacks in the northeast part of Nigeria have left razed villages, kidnapped children, death and destruction in their wake. This move on their part may make them more formidable or it may create jealousy between ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
