Biden’s Omicron holiday message blasted for ‘doomsday’ warning

Is president playing Scrooge?

Joe Biden, shown here speaking at the United Nations, is playing Scrooge by issuing a dire warning about COVID as Christmas approaches.

Some people are wondering if Joe Biden has gone around the proverbial bend following his less-than-cheerful holiday message stating, “We are looking at a winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated – for themselves, their families and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm.”

Writing at Patriot Fetch, Eric Thompson observed, “Grim Reaper in White House.” Radio host Todd Starnes dubbed him the “Angel of Death.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tweeted, “President Biden’s warning of a ‘winter of severe illness and death’ makes President Jimmy Carter’s ‘malaise’ speech urging Americans to lower expectations seem a cheerful upper by contrast. How do Democrats run as the party of ‘severe illness and death’? This is madness.”

Biden’s message was virtually copied the following day by Jeff Zients, identified by Fox News as the White House COVID Response coordinator.

Fox News is reporting a series of twitter messages criticizing and/or condemning the Biden message.

People are wondering what possessed the president to push this message in the days leading up to Christmas. The flap erupted prior to the retirement over the weekend of Dr. Francis Collins as director of the National Institutes of Health, where he has been for the past 12-plus years, according to NPR. But he didn’t go quietly, telling NPR, “I know people are tired of this. I’m tired of it too, believe me. But the virus is not tired of us. It’s having a great old time changing its shape every couple of months, coming up with new variants and figuring out ways to be even more contagious.”

But the public may not be buying the message, as Reuters and other news agencies are reporting that Democrat Senators Cory Booker (NJ) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) have both tested positive for COVID-19, and they have both been vaccinated. Such revelations raise questions about the effectiveness of the vaccines now in use. While both lawmakers are reportedly experiencing mild symptoms, that they’ve both tested positive further raises questions about the effectiveness of the vaccines.

Collins, during an interview on NPR’s Weekend Edition, said the U.S. could see a million infections reported every day heading into Winter. Collins said even if the omicron variation may be less severe, the numbers of infected people could rise by the end of January.
