Eight months into his four-year term, Joe Biden is in the midst of a plummeting popularity phenomenon in which increasing numbers of Americans disapprove of his job performance on several issues, and the outlook doesn’t fare well for any recovery.

According to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll, “His overall approval rating now, measured by FiveThirtyEight’s average at 49% disapprove and 45% approve, has worsened since late August.”

Biden, an ardent gun control proponent, is even in trouble on that subject, with only 38 percent of survey respondents approving of his work on guns, but 60 percent disapproving. He has lost ground since last month, when he had a 44 percent approval rating versus a 52 percent disapproval on his handling of the gun issue.

The New York Post said Biden’s overall approval rating is at 45 percent, but 49 percent disapprove.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

That correlates closely with the Rasmussen Daily Presidential Tracking Poll, which has the president getting a 42 percent job approval from likely voters but a 56 percent disapproval, and he hasn’t even been in office a full year. Only 22 percent strongly approve of Biden’s performance, while 48 percent strongly disapprove. That gives him a -26 Presidential Approval Index rating, Rasmussen said.

His handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, which is now being described as an abandonment, along with his handling of the economy also apparently has him in trouble with voters.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted Sept. 24-28 with a margin of sampling error =/- 3.7 percentage points and a 95 percent confidence level.

Biden’s “gun problem” may drag him down even farther as the country enters the final three months of the year. On the heels of the FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2020, which showed a 29.4 percent spike in homicides last year, body counts in several major cities continue.

All Biden can do is push for gun restrictions on law-abiding citizens, since criminals do not abide by gun laws.

What might be said is the bright spot of this new poll is that 57 percent of Americans approve of his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. However, the New York Post noted this is down seven points from August, and 15 points from March.
