New Hampshire anti-gun lobbyist Robert Blaisdell, 44, was arrested at his home on May 2 for false imprisonment (holding someone against their will), domestic violence (simple assault), and criminal mischief. It’s significant because he is a lobbyist for Everytown for Gun Safety, among several other clients. He has been released pending his appearance at trial.
The New Hampshire anti-gun lobbyist has been frequently active at the NH statehouse, advocating for gun control on behalf of the Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund. He is a managing partner of Demers, Blaisdell & Prasol Inc..
“Mr. Blaisdell is innocent of the criminal charges.
Our hope is that the case can be resolved with a minimum of trauma and difficulty for the entire family.”
Attorney Richard Guerriero to the Union Leader
According to court documents and scanner chatter, a large police presence was sent to a Union Street address at around 9 p.m. for an incident that had escalated from a domestic disturbance.
When they arrived and after conducting an investigation, police charged Blaisdell with three counts. They allege that he “knowingly” confined a family member “so as to substantially interfere with their ability to physically movement by holding the laundry room door closed over a period of several minutes” when the person tried to leave the room. Blaisdell is also accused of stepping on the person’s hand during the disturbance. Court documents also allege that he grabbed the victim’s cellphone and “using his hands in a twisting motion thus cracking the screen and rendering the phone useless, causing damages in excess of $100.”
Blaisdell is registered as a lobbyist for numerous clients:
NH Troopers Association, NH Police Association, NH Court Reporters Association, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and businesses such as Walmart, Eversource, Tufts Health Freedom Plan, Bank of America, FedEx, and the NH Wine and Spirits Brokers Assoc..
He pleaded not guilty, and is expected back in court on July 1. He was told to “stay away from the home” and not contact the victim. It is unclear whether an actual ‘no contact order’ was issued, but it is likely.
