“86 45” Sign Behind Whitmer Sparks Questions

During an interview on Meet The Press Sunday, a problematic sign was showing on the corner of Michigan Governor Whitmer’s desk: 86 45.  The Trump campaign immediately seized on the numbers to think that it meant encouraging people to kill the President.

The sign sparked an “editing” war on wikipedia with one person putting in the word “killing” and another taking the word out.  We won’t use Wikipedia for the definition of 86 45. We do know that Gretchen Whitmer hates our 45th President and wants him gone.

Possibly it means kicking him out of office- at least that’s one of the likely definitions of 86’d. Let’s look at some others:

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

There is no love lost between Democrat Whitmer and the President.

Fox reported:

It was unclear from the tweet what the numbers meant to convey, but, colloquially the term “86” is slang for canceling someone, killing someone, or ejecting someone, sometimes from a bar or restaurant. Meanwhile, Trump is the 45th president of the United States.

In a statement to Fox News, Courtney Parella, the deputy national press secretary for the Trump campaign, said, “By Gretchen Whitmer’s own standard, displaying something encouraging people to ‘86’ the President is employing dangerous rhetoric.”

During the interview, Whitmer also reacted to a video clip showing Trump at a campaign rally in Muskegon, Mich., on Saturday, where the president told the crowd “you gotta get your governor to open up your state,” adding “you gotta get your schools open.”

The crowd then chanted, “Lock her up,” referring to Whitmer, before Trump added, “Lock them all up.”

“It’s incredibly disturbing that the President of the United States — 10 days after a plot to kidnap, put me on trial, and execute me — 10 days after that was uncovered, the president is at it again and inspiring, incentivizing and inciting this kind of domestic terrorism,” Whitmer said, reacting to the clip. “It is wrong. It has got to end – not just for me and my family but for public servants everywhere who are doing their jobs and trying to protect their fellow Americans.”

What’s really disturbing is that her hate toward the President is so raw that she won’t even talk about constituents needs in the state of Michigan. Instead she rails against the President. Whitmer has been roundly hated for her coronavirus restrictions. The Michigan Supreme Court also called her out and told her that her restrictions were “unconstitutional.” She stated she would ignore the court’s ruling and had “alternate authority” to do them. When she viciously went after a 77 year old barber for opening his shop, the courts again told her to stop, and she doubled down. She blamed President Trump for the actions of 13 men who were arrested in a kidnapping plot.

Are the numbers 86 45 a not-so-thinly veiled threat? You can decide.
