Washington DC Police Commander Accused of Federal Crimes

parkerWhen you are the commander of police forces in one of the very worst parts of the city where violence flourishes, you should want more cops on the streets.  But Police Commander Vendette Parker doesn’t see it that way.

Even though murders in her district are up 100% this year, she pulled her officers away from their duties and used them to gather signatures for an initiative run by the extremely unpopular mayor of the city, Muriel Bowser.  Each officer was ordered to get 5 signatures.

She now finds herself in very hot water.  Not only did she deprive the citizens in her district the maximum amount of protection, but she also broke federal law making it illegal for federal employees to be used for political purposes.  (DC is considered a federal district and their employees are federal employees)

The Internal Affairs Bureau is in the process of investigating her violation of the Hatch Act of 1939.
