An uncomfortable fact about violent crime in America is emerging this week, thanks to the FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2016, and Barack Obama defenders are going to have a hard time wrestling with it.

According to the FBI reports for both 2015 and 2016, the final two years of Obama’s administration saw violent crime, and especially homicide and non-negligent manslaughter shot upwards dramatically.

In 2015, according to an FBI overview released in Sept. 2016, “the estimated number of violent crimes in the nation increased 3.9 percent in 2015 when compared with 2014 data.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Last year, also according to the agency overview released on Monday, “The estimated number of violent crimes in the nation increased for the second straight year, rising 4.1 percent in 2016 when compared with 2015 data.”

There is more.

“In 2015,” according to the FBI, “there were an estimated 1,197,704 violent crimes. Murder and non-negligent manslaughter increased 10.8 percent when compared with estimates from 2014. Rape (legacy definition) and aggravated assault increased 6.3 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively, while robbery increased 1.4 percent.

“In 2016,” the FBI overview said this week, “there were an estimated 1,248,185 violent crimes. Murder and non-negligent manslaughter offenses increased 8.6 percent when compared with estimates from 2015. Aggravated assault and rape (legacy definition) offenses increased 5.1 percent and 4.9 percent, respectively, and robbery increased 1.2 percent.”

Break out a pocket calculator and just add up the increased percentages for murder and manslaughter over the course of two years. The result is staggering. If this happened under Donald Trump’s administration, it would be on the front page, above the fold, of every newspaper in the country.

The data also shows that more blacks than whites or Hispanics were murder victims. In 2015, the FBI’s expanded homicide tables showed that 7,039 African-Americans, 5,854 whites and 2,028 Hispanics or Latinos were among the 13,455 murder victims.

Last year, 7,881 blacks, 6,576 whites and 2,367 Hispanics or Latinos were among the 15,070 murder victims, the data shows.

As reported by Conservative Firing Line earlier, of the 11,004 firearms-related slayings last year, only 374 are known to have been committed with rifles of any kind. In 2015, only 258 murders were specifically linked to rifles, including so-called “assault rifles.”

Yet Obama wanted to ban such firearms, which are properly identified as modern sporting or sport/utility rifles by many experts.

Like it or not, crime statistics covering the past two years are also part of the ex-president’s legacy.
