Videos: Planned Parenthood prez admits no mammogram machines, gets caught in lie

cecilerichardsWhile testifying before Congress on Tuesday, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards admitted that her organization does not own any mammogram machines.  Additionally, she admitted that those requesting or needing mammograms are “referred to a radiological clinic.”

She also said her organization has never claimed that it provides mammograms.  But a 2011 video posted by the Weekly Standard would seem to suggest otherwise.

Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, asked: “In the annual report, Planned Parenthood’s annual report, says that you are providing over 489,000 breast cancer screenings, and you’ve stated that none of your clinics actually have the mammogram machines. How many of the — how many of your affiliates have those mammogram machines?”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“Well our health centers are part of our affiliates. We have more than 650 health centers. So an affiliate is simply the corporate structure for those health centers,” Richards said.

Love pressed the issue: “How many of them have mammogram machines?”

“An affiliate isn’t a health center,” Richards said.  “I think I spoke earlier, we do not have mammogram machines at our health centers. And we’ve never stated that we did. As I think has been — was mentioned earlier, for women who go for a breast exam, just as I got for my annual, you get a breast exam, and if you need a mammogram, you’re referred to a radiological clinic, and that’s what we do at Planned Parenthood.”

Here’s video of that exchange, courtesy of Breitbart.com:

Now, here’s video from 2011:

This was also noted back in 2012 by a post at FactCheck.org:

At the second presidential debate, President Barack Obama said that women “rely on” Planned Parenthood for mammograms. Actually, mammograms are not performed at the clinics; Planned Parenthood doctors and nurses conduct breast exams and refer patients to other facilities for mammograms. Individual clinics sometimes provide more than referrals, arranging for mobile mammography vans.
