Team Dem: Free Agents, Trades, & Coaching Staff Changes

Evil Hillary Clinton - The Butcher of BenghaziDuck Dynasty will wind down an iconic reality television run in 2017 and we are seeing the potential end to some other dynasties as well: The Clinton Dynasty, The Obama Dynasty, and the Bush Dynasty. Oh sure, I’ve heard the rumblings that Chelsea Clinton is being groomed for Congress and the speculation that Michelle Obama may dip her toe into the murky waters of politics as well. But there is no mistaking the fact that America, at least for now, has grown weary of the dynasty. Exhibits A and B: Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders.

Now, admittedly, I’m not a political pundit, I’ve never held public office, and I didn’t even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. But I do have what grandpa called “horse sense” and I can look at the facts in front of me and form my own opinions. Did you see the post-election maps? If not for the northeast and the west coast, the Democrat party wouldn’t have had a snowball’s chance in a wood furnace. Then, if you look at the county-by-county maps, you find that the blue states aren’t really all that blue either. What you see is red from sea to shining sea with little pockets of blue. That tells me some interesting things:

  • The Democrat base is centered not in entire “blue” states but rather in smaller pockets of blue with large populations. IE: New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, etc.
  • The Democrats have governed based upon the ideology of these pockets of more liberal electorate, which are very dense in terms of population.
  • The news media has misled into believing that the entirety of the United States is of this more liberal mindset.

The issue here for you, Team Dem, is that America is largely comprised of smaller towns and cities made up of hard working middle class folks of all races, colors, genders, and political affiliations. The larger cities hold very large populations of voters but those pockets don’t necessarily speak for all the rest of us out here in small towns like Bulls Gap, Tennessee, Hot Coffee, Mississippi, or Toad Suck, Arkansas. What’s more is that your leadership, Team Dem, likes to rub elbows with those who are like-minded. (I don’t fault you. We all like to hang out with those who are just like us.) Your leaders like those big cities. They like to hang out with celebrities. They love to have throngs of adoring fans around constantly telling them how wonderful they are. But by focusing on those deep blue pockets of like-minded thinkers, you are completely alienating all of those deep red areas that were ripe for harvesting and hoping for some relief – regardless of the party color. This writer opines that had Hillary and Company preached a message of relief for the middle class and then backed it up with real ideas for real change, she could POSSIBLY be the president-elect instead of Trump.

So, what does all of this mean for you going forward, Team Dem? I don’t think you have figured it out yet. Nancy Pelosi is still in the running to resume her job as Minority Leader and the liberal news media are still debating about what exactly happened on November 8. The unofficial definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over while expecting different results. So, Team Dem, keep on pandering to the little pockets of blue. Keep rubbing elbows with celebrities and creating policy that benefits your special interest groups. Keep raising taxes and subsidizing while giving the bill to the middle class. If you do, here’s what you can expect: You’ll keep your biggest blue states but you will continue to see your influence decline and your victories dwindle. Why? It’s because you’re governing for small pockets of blue rather than ditching colors altogether and governing for the masses of hurting Americans from both sides of the aisle.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Team Dem, if you were a CEO of a company or an owner of a sports team that was in trouble, what would you do? Somehow I don’t think a CEO would look at a floundering company and allow the leadership to just keep doing what they’ve been doing. Likewise, I don’t see an owner of a chronically losing sports team just keep the same coaching staff and same players. A thousand times no! The CEO would shake things up. Jobs would be on the line, consultants would be hired, and policies/processes changed. The team ownership/management would likely terminate the contract of the head coach, trade some players, and hit up the marketing department for fresh ideas to get rear-ends in seats. Why, Team Dem, why would you continue business as usual without taking a hard look at where you are and where you’re heading? If you’re smart, you won’t.

I’ll leave you with this parting word, Team Dem. If you truly want the color-blind, equal, and diverse base that you claim to want for America, then get rid of the hypocrisy and reach out to not only those dense blue areas, but to all the rest of us reds out here. Oh, and don’t forget the independents either. Democrat, Republican, Independent – we all deserve for you to work to ALL of our best interests. You work for “we the people” – Not simply “they the blue”.

You just took a hit for a losing season but the new season is just around the corner. Your stock is in the toilet. Will you still be a viable entity in four years? That all depends on whether you make some adjustments or simply carry on with business as usual. In my humble opinion, Team Dem, it’s time for some coaching changes and player trades.
