SC restaurant owner to stop showing NFL games in response to kneeling players

Over the weekend, Fox Carolina reported that David McCraw, owner of the Palmetto Restaurant and Ale House in Greenville, South Carolina, won’t be playing NFL games in his restaurant until the protests of the flag and the anthem have stopped.

“NFL will never be played at Palmetto Alehouse until all players pay respect to our flag and our country!!!” he told Fox Carolina, calling the players entitled and arrogant individuals who use their position for advancement.

Fox added:

McCraw, an ex-military member, says he found the actions of NFL players protesting the national anthem by kneeling, disrespectful. He said he feels that athletes and people who’ve attained celebrity status should not be telling people what or what not to do because they don’t share the same struggles as people who live normal lives.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“I do not support anyone that thinks that our country or our flag is not worth standing for,” he explained.

Instead, he believes fans should walk out of the stadium altogether.

When FOX spoke with McCraw on Sunday, he said though he didn’t always agree with President Trump’s views, he did agree with the president’s statement that NFL players who kneeled during the national anthem at games, should be fired.

“Our president is our president, but I don’t stand in unity with everything he says,” McCraw told Fox. “This is a country of one people and we need to stand for our flag.”

He added: “There are issues in this country that need to be addressed, but disrespecting our flag and our country is not the way to do it.”

Here’s a video report, courtesy of WSPA:

McCraw initially made the announcement on Facebook, the WSPA report said, but that post is no longer available.

“It’s no concern for me,” McCraw said when asked about the impact his decision may have on business. “I’m an ex-military guy. My whole concept is about being local and supporting the community. It is not about supporting a concept that is disrespectful to our flag or our country, and I don’t think the people that come to my bar will feel that this is disrespectful to them.”

“We don’t need to be told by athletes or celebrities how to think,” he later added.

And it seems patrons agree with the decision, according to the WSPA report.

McCraw isn’t the only one protesting the NFL.  As we reported Monday, one Steelers fan burned his team gear in protest.  Rush Limbaugh said Monday this was the first time in 45 years he has not watched the NFL play.

According to the Daily Caller, 23 percent of NFL players who participated in games on Sunday either did not stand or hid out in their locker rooms during the national anthem.

This, Ford Springer said, “is nothing short of unacceptable.”

He added:

The national anthem protest, originally started by Colin Kaepernick over a year ago, made a resurgence on Sunday with approximately 12 percent (180) of NFL players either sitting or kneeling for the national anthem, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell. If you add in the players from the three teams that remained in the locker room during the anthem, 23 percent of the league didn’t stand.

What do you think?  Do you intend to boycott the NFL as long as these protests continue?  Let us know in the comment section below.
