Rasmussen: Eric Holder ‘least-liked’ member of Obama’s cabinet

A new Rasmussen survey shows strong unpopularity for Attorney General Eric Holder.

Attorney General Eric Holder is “one of the best-known and least-liked members of President Obama’s cabinet,” according to a new poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports.

The highest-ranking law enforcement officer in the land, Holder has been a lightning rod for controversy since early in the Obama administration when he suggested President Barack Obama might be considering a renewal of the ban on so-called “assault weapons.”

According to Rasmussen, 43 percent of the respondents look unfavorably at Holder while only 24 percent of America’s voters have a “favorable opinion” of the attorney general. Surprisingly, 33 percent of the respondents “don’t know enough about Holder to voice any opinion,” the survey revealed.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

This poll comes on the heels of a rousing speech over the weekend by Chris Cox, head of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action, in which he told a meeting of NRA members in Indianapolis that Holder “should have been fired a long time ago.”

Held in contempt of Congress almost two years ago for refusing to turn over documents subpoenaed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee as part of its investigation of Operation Fast and Furious, Holder has an anti-gun history dating back to the Clinton administration. Holder is the subject of a lawsuit filed by the committee. President Obama extended protection to Holder by declaring the documents were protected by “executive privilege.”

Last year, according to Cox, Holder “tried to equate self-defense with gun violence.”

The NRA held its 143rd convention at the Indianapolis Convention Center, where an estimated 75,000 people gathered over three days.
