President Trump to Donate $1 Million of Personal Funds to Harvey Relief

Trump donates $1 million, media MIA…

The Donald may not be the first president to accept only $1 a year as the nation’s Commander-in-Chief (Herbert Hoover and John Kennedy also took a mere buck per annum), but he may be the quickest on the draw to contribute a rather large chunk of change to assist victims of a natural disaster.

As reported by Jonathan Easley of the everything political The Hill, The Donald is kicking-in a cool $1 million to the Hurricane Harvey relief effort;

The president plans to donate $1 million for victims of the historic floods and rains that have devastated the Gulf region, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday.

But this isn’t the first time that the president has made headlines for his philanthropy. In spite of the NeverTrumpers media (notably, the rabidly anti-Trump Washington Post) making up news as they went along, the candidate really did raise millions of dollars earmarked for a number of various charities that specialized in assisting veterans.

As unbelievable as it sounds, the reliably liberal NPR (National Public Radio) set the record straight on the ton of cash raised by the ten-candidate for the oft forgotten veterans of the Armed Forces;

At least $1.9 million of the donations to veterans groups that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump reported on Tuesday came in last week, after Trump began responding to intense media scrutiny of his earlier claims about raising in excess of $6 million for veterans. Trump said on Tuesday that his efforts raised a total of $5.6 million.

NPR reached out to all 41 of the groups Trump listed as receiving donations. Of those, 31 responded. One group, the Navy SEAL Foundation, said it does not disclose details of its donations. The other 30 confirmed the amounts Trump reported Tuesday, accounting for $4.27 million of the $5.6 million total.

The donations came in from a combination of sources, including the Donald J. Trump Foundation, various groups and individuals who cited Trump’s efforts along with their donations, and Trump himself.

The candidate gave a $1 million check to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation on May 24, as questions from the Washington Post and other news outlets about Trump’s prior claims regarding these donations accelerated.

But back to the president’s announcement that he’ll contribute $1 million to the Hurricane Harvey relief effort, the White House toyed with the media much like a cat does a mouse prior to killing it.

As White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during today’s press briefing;

Trump has not finalized what group the money will go to, and the White House said it would solicit ideas from the press corps, taking a dig at those who have fervently researched and questioned past donations Trump has made or claimed to make.

“He’s actually asked that I check with the folks in this room since you are very good at research and have been doing a lot of reporting into the groups and organizations that have the best and most effective in helping and providing aid and he would love some suggestions from the folks here and I would be happy to take them,” Sanders said in the White House press briefing room.
