Nine people were murdered over the weekend in Chicago, including the 19-year-old son of a Chicago police officer who was just sitting outside, but there were no riots as there were in Milwaukee, where the county sheriff just blasted the “policies of liberal Democrats” for fueling the Wisconsin unrest.
Sheriff David Clarke just wrote in The Hill that, “I am furious that the progressive left has put my citizens in harm’s way and that I had to send my officers into cauldrons of anarchy and hatred that were created by the left.”
Milwaukee and Chicago are both Democrat strongholds. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel are both ardent gun control proponents.
After rioting broke out Saturday in Milwaukee, Republican Gov. Scott Walker was quick to put the National Guard on stand-by. On Sunday night, according to the Associated Press and Seattle Times, there was no more rioting.

According to WLS News, quoting the Chicago Sun-Times Media Wire, Arshell Dennis III and another young man were sitting there “when a gunman walked up and started shooting, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.” Dennis’ father is a Chicago cop. After the teen died at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, there was no riot, not even a protest march.
This is hardly like the public reaction in Milwaukee, where the fatal shooting Saturday of Sylville Smith, 23, an African-American, by a Milwaukee police officer, who is also black. Published reports said Smith was armed with a handgun and he did not drop it when ordered to.
It is noteworthy that Sheriff Clarke is a pro-Second Amendment African-American. He has become a frequent guest on Fox News, where he has been highly critical of Black Lives Matter and what he considers its media enablers. That much is evident in his piece in Monday’s The Hill.
Here’s part of what Clarke had to say:
“Here are the facts: Milwaukee is run by progressive Democrats. Their decades-long Democrat regime has done nothing to reduce these urban pathologies, in fact, their strategies have exacerbated the situation by expanding the welfare state.
“That things have not improved and in fact worsened in the American ghetto after eight years of Barack Obama is remarkable only to those who have not been paying attention to our nation’s cities.
“There’s only one answer, which is for the citizens of America to expose and heap scorn on this lying and dangerous triad of big government, liberal mainstream media, and the lost souls of the urban ghettos both these institutions feed upon for their power.
“A self-examination and self-criticism by the underclass is in order as well – as is an admission by Progressive Democrats that they have failed Milwaukee would be the first step in reversing this urban decay and reversing the growth of the underclass and their accompanying cultural rot.”
The sheriff’s department released information about Smith’s lengthy arrest record.
The Associated Press reported that a gun recovered at the scene of the shooting had been reported stolen in a March burglary in Waukesha. If that’s the case, it is a safe bet there was no background check.
