Man Trying to Enforce Sharia Law in Minneapolis

Abdullah Rashid, aka Devon James Miller

Abdullah Rashid is a 22 year old ‘Sharia vigilante.’ He has been “patrolling” in the Cedar-Riverside area of Minneapolis in order to find violations of Sharia law. He even claims to have 10 people assisting him in that endeavor. Only this is America…we don’t do Sharia.

Rashid is a native of Georgia who married a Somali immigrant. He moved to the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood in Minneapolis in 2016. His Sharia “patrols” of the neighborhoods have even spooked Muslims, according to local media. Somalis have been one of the groups that has produced ISIS sympathizers.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported,

Abdullah Rashid, 22, a Georgia native who moved to Cedar-Riverside last year, has been making the rounds in the Somali-dominated neighborhood, telling people not to drink, use drugs or interact with the opposite sex. If he sees Muslim women he believes are dressed inappropriately, he approaches them and suggests they should wear a jilbab, a long, flowing garment. And he says he’s recruiting others to join the effort.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

But local Muslim leaders are sounding the alarm. They are working to stop Rashid’s group, General Presidency of the Religious Affairs and Welfare of the Ummah, and have notified Minneapolis police, who say he’s being banned from a Cedar-Riverside property. Some say the group is preying on vulnerable young Muslims in a community that has dealt with national scrutiny around radicalization and terrorism.

The article states that Rashid claims to “provide security and protect Muslims’ civil rights.”

His real name is Devon James Miller. He reportedly converted to Islam in 2009, and started his group  “General Presidency of Religious Affairs and Welfare of Ummah” in 2013. He says he is trying to impose the “civil part of Sharia law.” [Note: there is no “civil part of Sharia law. Sharia is a foreign concept and not compatible with the Constitution in any way whatsoever.]

Minneapolis Police say they are “monitoring” his activities. Meanwhile, he is in the process of being evicted from the neighborhood’s Riverside Plaza Apartment Complex and has been told that if he tries to patrol that area he will be cited for trespassing.

When he attempted to obtain a concealed carry permit, he was denied, and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s office stated that he would likely be a danger to himself and others if allowed to carry a firearm. He sued them, but the lawsuit was dismissed.

He was arrested as a juvenile for impersonating a police officer, and reportedly has “mental issues.”
