In developing news, a man attacked a police officer with a meat cleaver in midtown Manhattan, New York before officers shot him.

The incident was captured by a by-stander where in the video, shots were heard and some New Yorkers ran for cover.

The rush hour was just under way when the suspect, according to the New York Post, was identified as a 32-year-old career criminal, Akram Joudeh.  According to witnesses, he became angry and began yelling and screaming when he saw that his white Nissan Altima had been booted for apparently illegally parked.

An off-duty police detective happened to be nearby and stepped in to assist other officers and put Joudeh against a nearby UPS truck and Akram struck him in the head with the meat cleaver.

As a result, police officers opened fire, where approximately five to six shots were fire, hitting Joudeh multiple times.

Franchesca Benitez, manager at clothing store Mandees, stated according to the news report by the New York Post, “We heard the gun shots and saw all these cops running and then we all ducked down and went into lock-down mode.”

A law enforcement official told Fox News, who has also reported on the attack, that special agents from the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force responded to the scene and that the attack was found to have no ties to terrorism.
