Just in time for the Fourth of July, the Obama Administration is on the cusp of slaughtering thousands of more bald and golden eagles. And what makes this all the more ironic, or disgusting depending upon your perspective, it that all the perspective killing is being done in the name of saving wildlife.

640px-Bald_Eagle_PortraitAs reported by KUSA of Denver, Colorado, the US Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing an increase of the 1,000 eagles they can lawfully kill every year. If and when a new permit is issued, the new maximum would be 2,000 golden eagles and up to 6,000 bald eagles that our government can kill annually without penalizing themselves.

According to Dana Bove, who serves on the Board of Directors for the Boulder County Audubon Society, the Feds are seeking to increase the kill number because of “the expansion of wind energy across the country. ” Increasing numbers of avian wildlife of every species has seen a marked rise of deaths due to the proliferation of wind farms.

The Fix Is In…

While the US Fish and Wildlife Service has allowed the public to voice their opinions regarding the permit increase, but only until July 5. Eventually, it will be the federal government who makes the decision if the federal government can grant itself the authority to up the kill limit.

According to the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, “civil penalties for violating provisions of the Act to a maximum fine of $5,000 or one year imprisonment with $10,000 or not more than two years in prison for a second conviction. Felony convictions carry a maximum fine of $250,000 or two years of imprisonment. The fine doubles for an organization.”2616365071_39d1125d07_b

Defying the bounds of absurdity, the specifics of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act are found on the website of the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
