Fox News’ Bret Baier Shreds Beto O’Rourke For Calling Border Wall ‘Racist’

Fox News anchor Bret Baier delivered a subtle jab at Beto O’Rourke, responding to the Texas Representative’s assertion that border walls are ‘racist’ by challenging him to take them all down in his state.

O’Rourke, who spent record amounts of money only to fall short in his quest to unseat Senator Ted Cruz this past election, was quoted in January of 2017 as saying President Trump’s proposed wall was flat-out racist.

“When you begin with the premise that Mexico is sending rapists and criminals to the U.S. and you meet that with a wall, that wall in itself is a racist reaction to a racist myth that does not reflect the reality of this country at all,” he said.

Former Investor’s Business Daily bureau chief, Paul Sperry, raised the quote again on social media, leading Baier to issue a question wondering if the potential 2020 presidential challenger would be willing to take down the current ‘racist’ barriers in his state.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Walls Work

Democrats have, for many years, been referring to the wall as racist, wasteful, xenophobic, and more recently, “immoral.”

The fact is, they are none of these and they work.

One such example can be seen in San Diego, where according to Rodney Scott, chief of that Border Patrol sector, revealed “not a single migrant climbed over the new border wall,” when a migrant caravan approached recently.

Guess where else it’s been pretty successful. How about in El Paso, Texas, a district in which Beto serves and has served in the city council.

“Federal data show a far-less imposing wall than the one Trump envisions — a two-story corrugated metal fence first erected under the Bush administration — already has dramatically curtailed both illegal border crossings and crime in Texas’ sixth-largest city, which borders the high-crime Mexican city of Juarez,” Sperry wrote in the New York Post one year ago.

The column goes on to note how violent crimes have plummeted since the fence in El Paso had been erected.

Looking Forward to Baier Challenging Lawmakers

Perhaps we’ll see more of this feisty version of Bret Baier going forward.

The Fox News anchor just signed a multiyear contract to continue his role on Special Report. The contract extends his time with the show and network well past the 2020 presidential election.

“Bret continues to be the gold standard not only across FNC, but the entire news industry and his reporting has played an integral role in the success and growth of the network,” Fox News president Jay Wallace said in a statement.

Baier’s show ranked sixth in the ratings for cable news programs this past year.
