Former Hospital CEO Accuses CNN of False Reporting, He Wins Major Court Ruling

cnn

Maybe, just maybe CNN is about to get what’s coming to them: the former CEO of a major hospital was forced to resign after a series of reports claimed that his hospital had “3 times the infant mortality rate of other hospitals.” Only problem: it wasn’t true.

Davide Carbone, the former CEO of St Mary’s Medical Center in Florida was forced to resign after they published the results of an “investigation.”

IJR reported,

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

CNN’s years-long investigation — which was featured on Anderson Cooper’s show “AC360” beginning in 2011 — focused on Florida’s St. Mary’s Medical Center and their children’s cardiac surgery program.

After the damning report prompted Carbone’s resignation, he filed a defamation lawsuit against the news network, claiming that CNN “misled its viewers” by knowingly comparing “more risky pediatric open-heart surgeries at St. Mary’s to a national average that included both open-heart and less risky closed-heart surgeries.”

“Fake News”

Carbone’s attorney, L. Lin Wood, stated:

“In our case, we contended that CNN essentially made up its own standard in order to conduct an ‘apples to oranges’ comparison to support its false assertion that St. Mary’s mortality rate was three times higher than the national average.

Accordingly, the case against CNN certainly fits the description of media-created ‘Fake News.’

...False and defamatory accusations against real people have serious consequences.”

The Court agreed, allowing the lawsuit to proceed.

“The Court finds these allegations sufficient to establish that CNN was acting recklessly with regard to the accuracy of its report, i.e., with ‘actual malice.'” Judge Orinda Evans

Does CNN act recklessly? They have tried to get this lawsuit thrown out so far to no avail. They have an obvious left-wing slant on all their stories. Did they act with malice to destroy this hospital CEO? We’ll find out as soon as it gets through the court system.
