The former head of the CIA Counter-terrorism Center and National Clandestine Service told Fox News on Sunday that Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi as well as other members of the Intelligence Committees, including several Democrats of both houses was aware of all the enhanced interrogation techniques, Newsmax reported on Sunday.
Pelosi has been on a damage control mission since the CIA report was released last week and stated that the she did not know anything about the CIA’s enhanced interrogation techniques. Rodriguez also stated that other top Democratic lawmakers were briefed and approved the program and today for political purposes, are stating they knew nothing about it and President Obama called the interrogation techniques torture.
Newsmax reported that Rodriguez told Fox News he clearly remembers briefing Pelosi in September 2002 about the techniques used on Abu Zubaydah. He said he briefed then-House Intelligence Committee Chairman Porter Goss and Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller. “All of these people knew exactly what we were doing,” Rodriguez said.” She [Pelosi] never objected to the techniques at all.”
Rodriguez also stated that Senator Jay Rockefeller, a Democrat, told Rodriguez to go after more suspects using the same or more techniques in order to gain any intelligence that would shed light on present or future terrorist attacks against the United States. On the subject of video tapes being destroyed, Rodriguez told Fox News that he was the person in charge of implementing the program to destroy those tapes. He said that destroying those tapes was because CIA agents had to be protected as their faces can be seen in those tapes and would put the agents at risk and jeopardize clandestine program.
Furthermore, such tapes would give the media a field day if they were leaked out would equate the “legal activity” shown on them with the Abu Ghraib case that the agents were conducted by “psychopaths”.
