Don Jr.’s Email Bombshell Revives Left’s Trump-Russian Narrative

Donald Trump, Jr. released his email chain communicating with a British publicist, and the leftwing media’s Trump-Russian conspiracy has new life.

Who is Rob Goldstone?

Rob Goldstone via Facebook.

(THIS is the guy the media believes is the mastermind who brokered the Russia-Trump election conspiracy.)

Rob Goldstone is a British music publicist.  He represents Azerbaijani-Russian businessman pop singer Emin Agalarov, who is the son of real-estate mogul Aras Agalarov, Trump’s partner in bringing the Miss Universe pageant to Russia in 2013.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Goldstone sent an email to Donald Trump, Jr.  According to Goldstone, his pop star son-of-a-Russian client wanted to arrange a meeting with Don Jr. because he had politically damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

Goldstone teased that the “Crown prosecutor of Russia met with [his client Emin’s] father Aras . . . and offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to [his] father.”  Here’s the text of Goldstone’s email:

Good morning

Emin just called and asked me to contact you with something very interesting

The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would obviously be very useful to your father.

This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump – helped along by Aras and Emin.

What do you think is the best way to handle this information and would you be able to speak to Emin about it directly?

I can also send this info to your father via Rhona, but it is ultra sensitive so wanted to send to you first.

Best

Rob Goldstone

Got that?  PR guy Goldstone says his client’s dad got incriminating information on Hillary Clinton from a Russian prosecutor and now the son wants to pass that information on to Trump’s campaign. And Don Jr. was all for it, responding to the email, “if it’s what you say I love it.”

The Meeting Set Up

At first Goldstone offered to set up a telephone call between his client Emin and Don Jr.  Then things changed.  Goldstone’s client Emin requested a face-to-face meeting with Don Jr. and a “Russian government attorney” to discuss the information, one Natalia Veselnitskaya.

On June 9, 2016, Trump Jr., Trump’s then-campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner met with Natalia V.  According to Don Jr., the meeting was a waste of time.

Instead of valuable opposition research on Hillary Clinton, Natalia V. urged changes in the Magnitsky Act, the 2012 law restricting U.S. adoptions of Russian children.  Similarly, Natalia V. claims she never had anything on Hillary to deliver, promoting one to wonder why Goldstone arranged the meeting in the first place.

Natalia Veselnitskaya — Russian Government Lawyer?

According to NBC News, Natalia V., the woman Goldstone hyped as the “Russian government attorney”, has “flatly denied any connection with the Russian government.”  And NPR reports that Natalia V. is a lawyer in Russia but is not directly employed by the Russian government.

Moreover, the Russian government emphatically denied any involvement with her:

“We don’t know who that is,” Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, said of Veselnitskaya. “And it goes without saying that we can’t keep track of the meetings of all Russian lawyers at home and abroad.”

Defending the president’s son, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway stated that nothing resulted from the meeting, explaining:

“DON JR. HAS VERY EXPLICITLY STATED HE DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THE NAME OF THE PERSON WITH WHOM HE WAS MEETING,” CONWAY SAID. “HE AGREED TO THE MEETING BASED ON A CONTACT FROM THE MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT.” THAT CONTACT WAS MUSIC PUBLICIST ROB GOLDSTONE, WHO TOLD THE WASHINGTON POST THAT HE HAD ARRANGED THE GATHERING

So, the White House spin is that Don Jr. agreed to meet with an unnamed source solely on the word of Rob Goldstone.  This misses the point which the Left will exploit.
Don Jr.’s State of Mind
Whether Natalia V. did or did not have connections to the Russian government is irrelevant.  Don Jr.’s email chain shows the president’s son clearly believed she did, contrary to his explanation that he knew nothing about her.
Moreover, at the time of the meeting, Don Jr. believed the Russian government itself was attempting to help Trump’s presidential campaign directly by passing along the promised information through Natalia V.
To the Left, this email chain is the tip of the Russian Collusion iceberg that they hope will sink the Trump presidency.  The Left and the political pundits will use these emails to support their ongoing conspiracy narrative, fuel further investigations, and calls for Trump’s impeachment.
