Since Detroit voters overwhelmingly voted for Barack Obama, City Councilwoman JoAnn Watson says the president owes the city a bailout.
“Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that,” she said on Tuesday.
“Of course, not just that, but why not?” she asked.
“After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable Coleman Alexander Young [Detroit’s former mayor of 20 years and former vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee], he went to Washington, D.C. and came home with some bacon,” she explained. “That’s what you do.”
“Young served as Detroit’s mayor for 20 years and served as vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 1977 to 1981,” Fox 5 added.
The White House has not announced any plans to bail out the city, although the federal government has bailed out cities in the past.
“Just because you helped get the president re-elected, doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed loans to save your city,” Newsbusters’ Matt Vespa wrote. “In fact, if such a list existed, I’d bet that most of California’s municipalities are probably in front of you, Ms. Watson,” he added.
Other cities, like Philadelphia and Cleveland also voted for Obama in overwhelming numbers.
According to Fox, almost 75 percent of voters in Wayne County voted for Obama.
Even if the government gave Detroit a bailout, that would not solve the city’s problems. In December 2011, Rush Limbaugh provided a solution: “Get rid of every liberal in government.”
