Dan Rather: Media must shame Trump supporters

Dan RatherOn Wednesday, Charlie Spiering reported at Breitbart.com that Dan Rather, the former CBS anchor whose career ended on a rather (no pun intended) sour note, took to Facebook to accuse GOP nominee Donald Trump of inciting violence and encouraged the media to do what it can to destroy the candidate and his supporters.

“This cannot be treated as just another outrageous moment in the campaign,” he said, referring to Trump’s “Second Amendment people” remark.

“By any objective analysis, this is a new low and unprecedented in the history of American presidential politics,” he added, apparently ignorant of the repeated death threats against the candidate.

“We will see whether major newscasts explain how grave and unprecedented this is and whether the headlines in tomorrow’s newspapers do it justice,” Rather said. “We will soon know whether anyone who has publicly supported Trump explains how they can continue to do.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Ironically, he wrote: “We are a democratic republic governed by the rule of law.”

Unfortunately, his preferred candidate, Hillary Clinton, has already been declared above the law.

So far, his post has received over 34,000 comments and has been shared over 255,000 times.

Okay, serious question then. If this disqualifies a candidate in your mind (which I’m not saying is wrong) then our choices are now between Stein and Johnson only…because HRC did the same thing (arguably worse) during the 2008 primary with Barack Obama,” one person said.

Seriously, Dan. Get off the meds before you post such ignorant drivel. You clearly forgot the ACTUAL assassination remark made by your heroine HRC,” another person said.

Another person reminded Rather of the hateful rhetoric aimed at former President George W. Bush:

Have you lost your mind? What problem do you have with us that support our second amendment? I found nothing wrong in Trumps statement and you who read something that wasn’t there into it is almost funny! Gee, I remember when Bush was running a movie came out showing an assassination of Bush and the media heee hawing about how funny it was…I guess you must have forgotten that one!!! We haven’t had civility, decency or non corrupt politicians in office for the last decade, except for very few exceptions, so get off the agenda wagon as it isn’t working. People are sick to death of the corruption in this regime. You in the media are part of it. Shame on all of you.

Ironically, he wrote this in another post: “The right to free speech, even to blatantly lie about public figures, is at the bedrock of our national identity.”

So, if Rather is so concerned about the national discourse, where was he when this black Vietnam veteran was shot for supporting Trump?  Or when this person was beaten with a crowbar over a Trump t-shirt?  No doubt, he was too busy stroking his chin conjuring another bit of pro-Hillary propaganda to notice.  Or care.

While many of the comments we saw took Rather to task for his statement, some came out to support him.

Nevertheless, it’s quite disturbing to see someone connected to what we call the Democrat-media complex actually advocate shaming supporters of a candidate simply because he or she doesn’t like him.

Recently, for example, we reported that actor Will Smith discussed “cleansing” the nation of Trump and his supporters.  A recent op-ed at the New York Post discusses how liberal media attacks could get Trump killed.

As we observed earlier this week, liberals have advocated murdering Republicans and conservatives en masse for years.

Given all that, one can’t help but wonder: How much longer will it be before liberals call for death camps and gas chambers?
