Black Caucus to file flurry of bills in response to Zimmerman verdict

CBC-@-500x333Never let a serious crisis go to waste, Rahm Emmanuel once said.

That’s exactly what the race-baced Congressional Black Caucus intends to do now that George Zimmerman has been acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

The Hill reported:

The lawmakers are drafting proposals intended to rein in racial profiling; scrap state stand-your-ground laws; and promote better training for the nation’s neighborhood watch volunteers, among other anti-violence measures.

CBC members had remained largely silent throughout the trial, but following the verdict, argued forcefully that, decades after the civil rights movement, the nation’s criminal justice system still discriminates against blacks and other minorities.

Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., said the verdict “seems to justify the stalking and killing of innocent black boys and deny them any avenue of self-defense.”

No, Rep. Lewis, the verdict says that Zimmerman did not violate the law when he defended himself against someone trying to kill him.

The Hill, however, apparently forgot that members of the CBC stuck their collective foot in their mouths when they declared Zimmerman a racist before the evidence was in.

What?  You didn’t know about that?  No surprise, really, given the state of today’s media.

In April 2012, the CBC issued a resolution condemning Zimmerman even though the facts were not known.  But facts mean nothing to these individuals.  Only race.  In fact, little else matters.

The resolution read, in part:

Whereas on February 26, 2012, Trayvon Martin, an African-American youth, was horrifically shot and killed while walking from his local 7-Eleven in Sanford, Florida, because he was viewed as ‘suspicious’ by George Zimmerman …

Whereas Zimmerman’s unfounded assumptions and racial bias led to the use of deadly force…

But an FBI probe found no evidence of racism.  Again, that doesn’t matter.  It’s a fact and must therefore be ignored in their view.

Sheila Jackson Lee, perhaps one of the stupidest individuals to ever be elected to Congress, even claimed that Zimmerman broke his own nose.

These are the people who now intend to use the Zimmerman verdict to advance a radical progressive agenda.

Hopefully, the GOP-led House will send these bills straight to the circular file.
